1. Learn the language each day. It takes time to learn a second language. You brain must be exposed to the language you are learning on a consistent basis in order to retain what you learn. It is very important to be around the language as much as possible to pick it up.

2. Set language learning goals. What’s your plan to achieve with the language? Do you want to learn to read news and other professional material? Or do you want to speak the language fluently or only at a conversational level? This is a crucial step if you want to get where you want to be fast and in a steady way?

3. Reward yourself after you have achieved the goals you set at Point 2. Eat in a foreign restaurant or travel to the country where the language is spoken as the native language. It could be anything that you think is a reward.

4. Speak the language on any possible occasion. This kind of occasion could be found simply if the language you have chosen to learn is popular such as French or Spanish. But if you are learning a less popular one, it might be a bit difficult. Pen pals can be found on the internet. People that you might have a chance to practice your language skills with through Skype or other IM tools can be located online, too. Cultural festivals can be explored to find who you want to have conversation and fun with. Ask other people that you know to introduce you to someone that speaks the language.
